THANKS Sharon and Mitch for a FABULOUS week at Pine Sunset Camp. Wow. Wish I could move up there. While we started slowly the first day and a half, the fishing the rest of our stay was fast, furious, and fun. I guess we were there during Week 6, the Mayfly hatch week, as everything was covered with them. We did not get the ever-elusive muskie, but we did get more Northern Pike than we could handle, many in the 5-6 pound range. All catch and release for us, as we prefer walleye and perch for eating. But the pike action was crazy the last two days we were there. Two over 45 inches were released “after touching the leader,” thus ensuring we did no harm to these beauties by handling them. Walleye superb. Have caught alot in our day, but I personally have never had success with quality walleye in weedbeds. Wow. We caught some great fish in the evening fishing weedbeds. And perch–truly JUMBO perch–were beautiful and plentiful. Weedbeds in the South were hot for perch for days.
All perch were caught jigging minnows in weedbeds South. Some walleye caught jigging near islands. Other walleyes and all pike caught in weebeds using Johnson Silver Minnows in gold–medium to large size. WEEDLESS of course. Wow, do the pike love this lure.
Sharon and Mitch are wonderful hosts and the cabins fantastic. The property is perfect, the boats top notch, and the lake and area simply stunningly beautiful. You cannot go wrong with a trip to Pine Sunset Lodge.
