Pine Sunset Lodge has reproduced this article about how to get a temporary resident permit as posted on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

To find the forms and info about where to submit them, visit their information page on the topic.

Temporary resident permit

This information is for guidance and reference only. A decision on your admissibility can only be made when you apply to come to Canada or at a port of entry.

If you are inadmissible but have a compelling reason to travel to Canada, in some cases you may be issued a Temporary Resident Permit.

To be eligible for a Temporary Resident Permit, your need to enter or remain in Canada must outweigh the health or safety risks to Canadian society. Even if the reason you are inadmissible seems minor, you must prove your need is valid.

Note: A Temporary Resident Permit is a document that is only issued in exceptional cases. It is not the same as a Temporary Resident Visa.

There is no guarantee that you will be issued a Temporary Resident Permit. If you apply for this permit, you have to pay a fee which is not refundable. This permit may be cancelled at any time, and you may be subject to an admissibility hearing or a removal order.

A permit is issued for a specified period. This period is often short, for example, for a week to attend a conference. You must leave Canada or apply for a new permit before your current one expires. It may be cancelled by an officer at any time. The permit is no longer valid if you leave Canada, unless you have specifically been authorized to leave and re-enter, which is rare.

How to Apply for a Temporary resident permit

If you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country, the visa office responsible for your country or region may have their own application form for Temporary Resident Permits. You should verify with the visa office to find out about their specific application procedures.

Otherwise, if you are inadmissible to Canada but wish to come here, you should submit an application for a Temporary Resident Visa along with supporting documentation to explain why you are inadmissible and why it may be justified for you to enter Canada.

You may have to attend an interview so that an officer can assess your application.

Processing fees for a Temporary resident permit

You must pay a fee ($200 CAD) to cover the cost of processing your application for a Temporary Resident Permit. The fee will not be refunded if a permit is refused. Check the visa office website for payment instructions to pay for your temporary resident permit application.

We at Pine Sunset Lodge welcome a recent decision by Canadian authorities that reduces the red tape associated with crossing the border from the United States. Fishing in Canada has long been attractive to American visitors, but many have been put off by the hassle at the border.

Have You Avoided Crossing The Border To Fish and Hunt?

With how close our Ontario Fishing and Hunting Lodge is to the border crossings at Fort Frances/International Falls and Rainy River/Baudette, we’re quite happy with the new regulations. Quite simply, the changes reduce the bureaucracy involved for people who are crossing the border to stay at the lodge in order to enjoy the hunting in the area and the fishing in Dinorwic Lake.

Under the new regulations crossing the border will be easier because Canadian immigration officers will have the discretionary power to admit tourists who have a minor legal conviction in the US.

Book your summer fishing vacation today!
July and August dates still available.

Call Sharon and Mitch toll-free anytime at 1-888-897-4212

Before this legislation came into force anyone with a record, no matter how minor, could be turned away from crossing the border. This has been a bone of contention with business owners near the Canada/US border, who estimate that the old regulations cost millions in lost earnings without contributing anything to the personal safety and security of Canadians.

There have been incidents reported where one person in a busload of tourists would be refused admission because of a minor offence. This refusal (and the long delay while processing the crossing) would incense the other tourists who would cancel their vacations in protest.

Recent Decision Makes Crossing The Border Reasonable

Another factor that annoyed many was that no account was taken of how long ago a conviction took place. In many cases, people who had committed a minor offence long in the past would be embarrassed to have the whole thing dragged up in front of their travelling companions.

The new regulations are temporary but have received strong backing from business owners who hope they will be made permanent. Only those who have multiple convictions or have served seven or more months in jail will now be targeted. The new system is looking to be a good thing!

Plan Your Trip: July & August Bookings Available!

Whether this new regulation affects you or not, we at Pine Sunset Lodge would like to invite you to plan your summer fishing trip for July or August TODAY, to be sure you get the cabin and dates you want.

You can reach us by telephone toll-free anytime at 1-888-897-4212.

See you at the lake!

Kyle’s Muskie Fishing Story

Kyle Olsen and his dad, Ernie had a great time staying at Pine Sunset Lodge and fishing Dinorwic Lake. You can see Kyle and his dad on our blog, Facebook page and here on this newsletter, too .

The fish Kyle’s dad is helping him hold up is a huge muskie that Kyle caught.

Kyle sent us a story about some of his fishing adventures with us, telling us not only about the (really big) muskie he caught, but the type of equipment he was using, as well. We asked him if we could share the story and he was thrilled!

Do YOU have a fishing story you’d like to share from your time on Dinorwic Lake with Pine Sunset Lodge? We’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Kyle!

My Muskie Fishing Story

By Kyle Olsen

My dad, his friend Jimmy, and I just got off a 12 hour drive and arrived at Pine Sunset Lodge.

The boat got pretty dirty from some of the gravel roads we had to take to get there. So dad had me do a quick wash on the boat. After that I asked if I could fish of the dock to see if I could catch some small pike.

He said, “Go right ahead.” So I did.

A PWT pro John Kolinski came fishing with me on the dock. He used a top water bass bait, and on his third cast a huge swell took his bait. He barely even got to set the hook and it was a clean cut off. That is when I just got down there. He left to retie.

I made one cast got nothing, made another one and felt a tug on my line. I set the hook and it didn’t feel like a fish it felt like I was dragging a big log or something.

When it got up to the dock I was screaming, “Get the net!” For it was a monster. It was swimming next to the dock like it wasn’t even hooked. It was barely fighting. That’s when a man named Terry came down to the dock to see what I had on. As soon as he saw what was on my line he was screaming at them to bring the net down here now.

Then it started to fight a little bit. It was heading out for the open water. That’s when dad got down there with the net. It was taking out the line fast.

Meps Comet Fishing Lures

Then it did an amazing tail walk. It just pushed its self out of the water. That was the most amazing thing I’d ever seen!

It came back to the dock and dad netted it. It had the lure buried in its mouth. It even had the 8in. leader in its mouth. Its huge teeth were just scratching the line.

It was so heavy that I couldn’t lift it so dad had to lift it for me. We never measured it because we wanted to let it go so it could live. It was the biggest muskie I’d ever seen.

I was using 6lb fire line, a Meps Comet, and a medium action walleye rod.

Later that night there was another muskie sitting right by the dock on the surface. It looked even bigger than the last one. I hooked him and with a few shakes of his head I lost him.

A few casts later I lost my Comet to a snag. So I used an Erie Dearie and had one about thirty inches long follow up. Later the mosquitoes got bad so I had to leave and go into the cabin. I never caught another muskie that trip but once in the boat I had one eat my walleye.

Erie Dearie Fishing Lure

Another Year, The Fishing Story Continues!

The next year I was fishing up there again this time I came prepared a little better. I still used my Meps Comet. I was fishing in the evening again and down on the steep bank by a bull rush, it was there, I had another big fish on! I had 20lb test on and this fish was stripping out line! But I lost him.

Later that trip we were pre fishing for my dad’s tournament and our friend fishing with us had a 50” plus muskie follow up. We were fishing a rocky island with some weeds when he followed up.

Later we fished a different island with the same type of condition as the last one rocky and weedy. We were jig fishing it with Berkley Gulp and one time I lifted up and hooked into something. It was like a 60” muskie. I mean the thing was absolutely gigantic. It was barley even hooked on the side of the mouth! With one shake of his head I lost him.

My stay at Pine Sunset Lodge was great. They have fish fries (they are great). They tell you where the fish are biting they tell you how they’re biting. The best part is the fishing, it is great! There are many walleyes and pike just off the docks.

The best part of fishing there is you might hook into a huge muskie while fishing for walleyes.

2012 Sports Show Schedule

Happy Holidays!! And Hello Again

Every year we comment on “How quickly the summer has come and gone!” We have been saying that for ten (10) years now and looking back, all we can say is “How quickly the past ten years have gone!” To show our appreciation, there will be no rate increase in 2012.

The weather this year was dryer than the last two years. We had a couple major storms. The worst was in July when a tornado hit the lake. We had a tree up-rooted falling just short of the house, a much larger tree that cracked about 30 feet from the ground like it was a tooth pick, a couple of cabins had soffit and fascia blown off and a lot of branches all over the yard. The lake was like a land mine. Floating trees, limbs and debris all over. Over all we were fortunate as a couple local houses lost their roofs. Tornados are rare but this was the second in the past ten years that was with in 50 miles of camp.

We found most of the nice fish in shallow water adjacent to rocks, reefs, points and weed lines. There was a couple of 30+ inch walleye caught and released and a very good year for walleye over 18” caught and released.

In 2011 we remodeled cabin #7’s kitchen. It’s very nice now with a window over the new double sink and counter and new flooring. We also replaced two old windows with new energy efficient sliders. For those of you who have been to our camp cookout may have had to tolerate rain and high winds under the tent. After the July storm we had to pick our cookout days each week to include good weather as the storm took out one of our tent roofs. We were able to crutch thru but only if it was not raining or windy. In July we broke ground and as of mid-October we now have a new permanent pavilion to have our cookouts. No more running from the weather. Our customers have appreciated our free lake tour, camp cookout, ice and live bait package so we will continue these services.

In summary, Fishing on Dinorwic Lake this year was at times slow and other times very good. The weather was much better than last year in that it didn’t rain every week and the temps were pretty much normal. The water level by the end of September was about 18″ low.

Lake Trout is a bonus. We don’t have them on our lake but there are a few lakes in the area that are a lot of fun to fish for lake trout. No hugh monters but the 3-8 pounders that are good eaters. Smoked, grilled or fried these fresh water fish are both a fun catch and good eat’n.
